Protect The
Environment, Protect Yourself |
The Steel
Tank Institute remains at the forefront in underground tank design
with the STI-P3® Dual Wall Steel Underground Storage
Tank. The Dual Wall Tank doesn't just meet federal, state, and
local requirements; it surpasses them.
Federal law requires that all underground
tanks be structurally sound, corrosion resistant, and product
compatible. Some state and local governments are beginning to
require secondary containment. Fines for noncompliance are stiff;
the liability for a tank leak can be sky-high. By specifying the
STI-P3® Dual Wall Tank, you'll take a giant step
beyond regulations.
High structural strength
The STI-P3® tank's steel
construction ensures a rugged and durable structure.
Steel STI-P3® tanks have
inherent strength and resilience.
Three-way corrosion protection
The STI-P3® system provides a
multi-level approach to assure complete external corrosion
resistance.
The three-way system includes:
Protective Coating: A tough, heavy-duty dielectric
coating covers the tank and seals it from the surrounding soil. It
provides the first line of defense against stray current and
galvanic corrosion.
UL-Listed Dielectric Bushings: Nylon bushings in all
openings electrically isolate the tank from piping. They prevent
the entry of stray currents or galvanic action through piping
connections.
Cathodic Protection: Galvanic anodes provide protective current
flow to any scratches in the coating that my occur during
shipping/handling. The anodes are self-regulating, supplying
current only as needed, for extra long life. Every P3 tank is
shipped with a factory installed PP2 Protection Prover cathodic
protection monitoring system.
Fuel/chemical compatibility
The STI-P3® steel tank is
compatible with all current fuels, including alcohol blend
gasolines. It's also compatible with anticipated fuels and nearly
all commonly stored chemicals.
Dual-wall containment
The UL-listed STI-P3® Dual
Wall Tank provides a rugged steel wrap for secondary containment.
The double-wall steel construction is more secure than vaults or
liners. It's also simpler and stronger than other double-wall
tanks; no
special internal ribbing is required for outer wall support.
The Dual Wall Tank's outer steel wrap
surrounds the inner UL-58 tank, creating an interstitial space
between wrap and tank. P3® tanks are manufactured to
both U.L. Type 1 and Type II standards according to local codes or
requirements. Any potential leak that may occur will be captured
in this sealed space, preventing a release to the environment. And
with the tank's leak monitoring provision, a warning will be
provided.
|
Easy monitoring
The tank includes an integral leak
monitoring well which is connected to the tank's interstitial
space. The monitoring well enables quick and easy leak detection
by any of a variety of methods: electronic, mechanical, pressure,
vacuum, hydrostatic, or manual (dipstick). Automatic monitoring
methods provide immediate warning to appropriate personnel.
Recommended monitoring depends on the
particular application.
Variety of sizes
The STI-P3® Dual Wall Tank is
available in a wide range of sizes. Standard capacities range from
300 to 50,000 gallons. Custom sizes are also available.

STI-86:
Containment of Pipe & Fitting Leaks |
| Studies show that about
70% of underground leaks are due to leaking piping or fittings
rather than the tank itself. Since the STI-P3® system
has effectively solved the tank leak problem, the Steel Tank Institute has channeled its engineering
expertise into solving the piping and fitting leak problem. The
result is the state-of-the-art STI-86 piping containment and
access system.
Leakproof containment
STI-86 is a design standard developed to
trap piping leaks at the tank and prevent environmental damage.
The system places all tank access points-- fittings, connections,
etc. -- within a leakproof chamber atop the tank. So pipe joints,
which are the most likely to leak, are fully contained and removed
from contact with the soil.
Filling spills, another troublesome
source of groundwater contamination, will be captured as well.
Easy access
Since all connections are located in a
single area, STI-86 provides easy access to piping, fittings,
pump, and gauges. It also enables simple and quick visual
inspection whenever the tank is to be filled.
Isolated and protected
All openings are through the tank's
manway cover which is electrically isolated from the tank. The
containment chamber is coated in the same manner as the tank and
is electrically isolated.
All piping exiting the chamber is likewise
isolated.
Overfills eliminated
An optional fill limiting valve prevents
overfilling the tank, to stop spills and product loss.
Fits a variety of needs
The STI-86 system will accommodate all
existing pumps and piping. Whatever your application needs, your
equipment will fit.
|
| All STI-P3®
tanks are fabricated following rigorous quality control
procedures. To ensure conformance to standards, tanks must undergo
three levels of quality inspection: the manufacturer's own
inspection; regular inspections by a national testing
organization; and unannounced Steel Tank Institute inspections.
Thorough testing
Tanks go through a batter of tests and
checks. The protective coating must pass tests for aboveground
weathering, product compatibility, cathodic disbondment,
underground weathering, coating adherence, and dielectric
properties. The coating is also wet-film and dry-film tested to
check for appropriate thickness.
Anodes must be of the proper material and
purity, properly sized and located, and securely attached to the
tank. Isolation bushings must be dielectric and UL approved.
Both the inner tank and outer wrap must
be pressure tested and checked with leak detecting solution.
30-year warranty
Because of careful engineering and strict
manufacturing standards, STI-P3® tanks offer warranty
protection that is unsurpassed in the industry --a 30-year limited
warranty against structural, corrosive, or incompatibility
failure. And the Steel Tank Institute itself backs each tank.
Only the best manufacturers are licensed
to build STI-P3® tanks, so you get only the best in
underground storage.
